Out of Trinidad’s road-march season in 2014 comes a compact soca set from Rich Persad Production, and the title says exactly where the energy’s aimed: straight at the road. With just three vocal cuts and an instrumental, the riddim keeps the focus tight, leaving room for each singer to stamp a different angle on the same forward-driving groove. Zan’s “Bam Bam” opens with the kind of chant-friendly hook that suits a truck-riding crowd, Stefan Jaxx’s “Till Morning” pushes the party into the late hours, and Ki’s “Chip” brings the sharpest snap of the bunch, all over a brisk, brass-tinged, fete-ready foundation. Rich Persad keeps the arrangement lean and mobile, and the strongest impression comes from Ki, whose “Chip” gives the riddim its cleanest, most immediate pull.
