Rebellion Riddim – Stainless Records

Gyptian’s “Tell You This” gives the Rebellion Riddim its strongest pull right away, and Stainless Records keeps the set focused with a lean five-track roll call that also includes Hyah Slyce’s “Here To Stay, ” Capitol D’s “Jah Show Love, ” and two cuts from Moeish, “Buss Big” and “Rebel. ” The rhythm has that clipped, rootsy tension that suits songs about perseverance and resistance more than party chatter, which is exactly where Gyptian lands best here. Stainless had already worked a Rebellion project the year before under the Stainless Music name, and this 2014 version feels like a tighter revisit rather than a whole new idea, trimming the cast and sharpening the message. In the label’s catalogue, it sits neatly among their more conscious reggae sets, with “Tell You This” doing most of the heavy lifting.
