Jahvillani’s “Tek Bwoy” is the sharpest cut on Star Flexx Records’ Razor Blade Riddim, and it sets the tone for a small but pointed three-track dancehall set that keeps its focus tight. The riddim has that lean, cutting edge suggested by the title, with enough room for the vocals to bite through, and Jahvillani rides it with the kind of clipped menace that makes the whole thing feel more dangerous than decorative. Soul Xklusive’s “Sharp” and Cyti Flexx’s “Anyweh At All” keep the energy in the same lane, but Jahvillani gives the project its clearest identity. Star Flexx keeps the arrangement bare enough that every line lands, and that stripped-down feel is part of the pull here, 2015 and all.
