Ram Jam Riddim – Silly Walks Discotheque

Out of Hamburg, Silly Walks Discotheque’s Ram Jam Riddim arrived in April 2015 with a tidy little one-riddim lineup that sits between roots weight and modern dancehall polish. The tracklist has a nice spread of voices, but the pull is the way Chronixx’s “Play Some Roots” sits alongside Shaggy’s “Don’t Stop” and the Sara Lugo/Protoje pairing on “Really Like You, ” each one riding the same midtempo one-drop with a faint early-reggae feel. Exco Levi, LUST, Ras Demo, RC and Dalton Harris fill out the juggling, giving it that proper crew feel without crowding the production. Silly Walks, long rooted in Hamburg’s reggae and sound system scene, keep the arrangement clean and unfussy here, and the vinyl run even paired a few cuts up in 7-inch form, which feels like a nice little nod to collectors.
