Rain From The Sky Overview
In 1996, a reggae set called Rain From The Sky Riddim appeared in Jamaica’s music scene. This project brought together some of reggae’s well-known voices and was a favorite on sound systems across the island. Gregory Isaacs, known as the “Cool Ruler,” was one of the main artists featured. He brought his smooth style to the song Got To Make It Up. Isaacs is famous for his classic hit Night Nurse and is recognized worldwide for his soulful voice and long career. Lukie D, another artist on the riddim, gave fans the track Somebody Told Me. Lukie D is respected for his strong vocals and work with the group L.U.S.T., which found success in the late 1990s. Tony Tuff contributed Walk And Talk. He is an established singer from the roots reggae era, known for his early work with the African Brothers. Yami Bolo added his song Show Me. Bolo is respected for his spiritual lyrics and has worked with reggae legends like Augustus Pablo. The foundation of this riddim was built by RECORD FACTORY, a respected Jamaican label. RECORD FACTORY is known for producing many popular reggae and dancehall tracks during the 1990s and helped launch several artists’ careers. The Rain From The Sky Riddim is a good example of how modern reggae can connect back to its roots, both in sound and spirit.
