Aya Yaad Muzic’s Pure Heart Riddim lands a little leaner than a lot of 2012 one-riddim sets, with just five cuts and no waste around the edges. The vibe is rootsy and devotional rather than flashy, moving with a steady mid-tempo pulse that leaves room for the voices to carry the weight. Kerri Ann Lewis opens it on “Trod (I And Jah Alone)” with a firm spiritual angle, while Nesbeth’s “Taking Over” and Daville’s “Thug Like Me” bring a harder street-wise edge to the same framework. Lutan Fyah’s “Short Cut” sits nicely in the middle with his usual conscious fire, and Jah Dore’s “Hello” closes things out without disturbing the riddim’s calm, patient flow.
