Aya Yaad Muzic’s Pure Heart Riddim lands a little leaner than a lot of 2012 one-riddim sets, with just five cuts and no waste around the edges. The vibe is rootsy and devotional rather than flashy, moving with a steady mid-tempo pulse that leaves room for the voices to carry the weight. Kerri Ann Lewis opens it on “Trod (I And Jah Alone)” with a firm spiritual angle, while Nesbeth’s “Taking Over” and Daville’s “Thug Like Me” bring a harder street-wise edge to the same framework.
