ZJ Liquid is a Jamaican dancehall producer, radio DJ, and recording artist whose name has been closely tied to the sound of modern party reggae and dancehall from Montego Bay to the wider Caribbean. Born Michael Brissett, he first built his reputation on the local music and radio circuit before becoming a familiar voice on Jamaican airwaves, where his selector’s instincts and feel for crowd-driven music helped shape his later work in the studio. His early path ran through sound systems and radio, and that background gave his productions a sharp, nightlife-ready energy that would become part of his signature. He later moved into production in the early 2000s and began building a catalogue of rhythms and singles that travelled well beyond Jamaica. Among the tracks most associated with his name are “Party Hard,” “Wifey Walk Away,” “Chant A Psalm,” and “Party Mi Say,” songs that helped establish him as more than a DJ behind the turntables. He also became known for rhythm projects such as “French Vanilla,” “12 Gauge,” “Bluetooth,” and “Fix Up,” alongside collaborative work with major dancehall names including Elephant Man, Assassin, Busy Signal, and Demarco. One of the clearest markers of his evolution as a producer came with the 2016 album Msquared, a genre-blending project that mixed dancehall with touches of Afrobeat, EDM, trap, and soca, and featured an unusually wide range of artists from Sean Paul and Beenie Man to Vybz Kartel and Safaree. By then, ZJ Liquid had already spent years balancing radio, deejaying, and production, and he later continued that dual role with projects like MoBay Son and Point A View. His work reflects a producer who understands both the dance floor and the airwaves, and who has helped carry the Montego Bay sound into club sets, mixtapes, and contemporary Jamaican releases over the long haul.
