PREVIEW – GREEN LION CREW & V.A. – ROUGH ROAD RIDDIM 2013

Preview – Green Lion Crew and V.a. – Rough Road Release Details

By 2013, Green Lion Crew had already started carving out a lane with productions that pulled reggae, dancehall, hip hop and electronic textures into the same frame, and Rough Road Riddim sits right in that early run. The cut has a murky, forward-leaning pulse, with enough space in the drums and synths for the voices to cut through, and the lineup is strong from the jump: Chronixx on “Life Over Death, ” Kabaka Pyramid on “Liberal Opposer, ” and Jahdan Blakkamoore on “Life Is Greater” each bring a different edge to the same brooding backdrop. Green Lion Crew’s own notes placed the riddim on Soul of the Lion Records, and the six-track set also runs through Dre Island, Zamunda and Cronsyncro, with “What Is Mine Is Mine” and “Smoking Paradise” filling out the sequence.
