Present Life Riddim – Riddim Sky Records

Present Life has that compact, no-frills dancehall feel that lets the vocal cuts do the heavy lifting, with Gappy Ranks’ “Mama Like You” giving it the most polish and Teejay’s “Changes” adding a sharper, more contemporary edge. Riddim Sky Records kept the lineup tight in 2016: Delando Colley’s “Pull Up” and Ryme Minista’s “Guh Harder” sit alongside the instrumental, so the whole thing plays like a quick snapshot of the era rather than a sprawling set. There’s a nice push-and-pull between the smoother singjay moments and the grittier deejay energy, and the instrumental at the end leaves the riddim hanging in the air with just enough bass and space to carry the project.
