Porcupine Riddim – Judgement Yaad Records

Andy Banton’s “Kuphwekesa” leads Porcupine Riddim with the kind of forward-leaning cut that sets the tone for the whole 2019 Judgement Yaad Records package: sharp, percussive, and built for a dance floor that likes its bassline lean but stubborn. Around him, Emarald, Positive Yut and Sithe each return in clean and raw versions, which gives the riddim a nice bit of contrast and underlines how much mileage the same juggling can get when the voicing is right. Minga’s “Show U Love” keeps the energy lighter in the middle of the set, while the overall feel sits squarely in that late-2010s dancehall lane where spare drums, clipped synths and tough low end did the heavy lifting. It’s a tidy little selector’s riddim, more about pressure than polish.
