Out of Kingston in 2013, Piano Ballad Riddim from Kingston Elite Studios takes a softer, more reflective route than the name might suggest, framing its seven-song set around piano-led reggae with a devotional edge. The cut list keeps a nice balance between uplift and warning: Bastic’s “Children Are The Future, ” Bencil’s “I Will Never Fall, ” Black Lion’s “Give Thank For Life, ” and Jay A’s “Mama” all lean inward and personal, while Capleton and Sizzla bring the fire with “Dem A Worry We A Pray” and “Show Us The Danger. ” With seven artists on seven tracks, there’s no wasted space here, just a clean sequence that moves from gratitude to resistance, and Capleton’s pull at the center gives the riddim its sharpest burst of heat.
