Burning City Riddim – Heavy Roots And La Cupula Music

Burning City Riddim has that smoky, militant roots pulse that makes the title feel earned. Heavy Roots and La Cupula Music lined up a tidy 2013 voicing with Etzia, Million Stylez, Morodo, Randy Valentine, Sr Wilson and the Ganjahh’R Family/Mandinka Warrior combination, and the energy sits right where conscious reggae meets modern dancehall pressure. Million Stylez’ “Babylon Is Burning” feels like the sharpest cut in the pack, while Morodo and Sr Wilson keep the riddim moving with that upright, streetwise edge. There’s a nice connection here between the Spanish-rooted flavor of La Cupula’s side of the project and the international cast they pulled in, which gives the whole thing a lively, road-ready feel; even the title, “Burning City, ” lands like a warning more than a slogan.
