Pharaoh Overview
In 2016, dancehall fans were drawn to the lively sound of the Pharaoh Riddim. This riddim quickly became a favorite in clubs and parties, bringing a fresh energy to the dancehall scene. The project came from BASHMENT SOUND SA, a music group and label known for pushing African dancehall and reggae forward. BASHMENT SOUND SA has helped introduce new talents to a wider audience, especially in South Africa and beyond. The Pharaoh Riddim brought together several artists, each adding their own style. Godfidence, performed by Nc Dread & Wyre, stood out for its catchy hooks. Nc Dread is a respected dancehall artist from Zimbabwe, while Wyre is a Kenyan singer known for his hit songs like “Chuki” and collaborations with top African musicians. Action, voiced by Bay-C, brought a strong presence to the riddim. Bay-C is well-known as a member of T.O.K., one of Jamaica’s most successful dancehall groups, famous for hits like “Footprints” and “Gal You Ah Lead.” More Ting, performed by Chibwa, added a smooth and melodic touch. Kingston City, with Da'Nandi, gave the riddim a classic dancehall feel. We Far Gone, by Shegee Styla, showed the talent of this Liberian artist, who is known for her pioneering role in African dancehall and hip-hop. Each track on the Pharaoh Riddim helped make it a dancehall anthem. Party crowds in 2016 remember how this riddim kept the dance floor moving all night.
