PENPAL RIDDIM produced by VARIOUS ARTISTS 2012
Penpal Overview
In 2012, a new dancehall riddim started making waves at parties across Jamaica. The Penpal Riddim was born from late-night studio sessions, where the creative energy was high and the mixing board king made his mark. Behind the sound was the producer known as VARIOUS ARTISTS, a name that had already turned heads in the dancehall scene for blending fresh talent with hard-hitting beats. Working under the label V.A. Productions, VARIOUS ARTISTS had a reputation for bringing together artists who might not usually share a track, always with a focus on unity and dancefloor energy. The riddim’s journey began with a simple, infectious groove. The mixing board king, famous for his sharp ear and quick hands, layered the drums and bass until every selector wanted a copy. VARIOUS ARTISTS then invited a select group of vocalists to bring the riddim to life. Gb brought his signature style to "Gal Dem Dangerous," a track that quickly found its way into dancehall sets. Ashea, known for his powerful delivery, stood out with "General," a song that showed his lyrical strength. Jrocksfinest added his own touch with "Get The Paper," building on his reputation for catchy hooks. Della Mar’s "Musical Don" and Point Blankk’s "Nuh Badda Mad Mi" rounded out the lineup, each adding a new flavor to the riddim. These tracks became favorites for selectors, who loved the way the riddim kept crowds moving.
