In 1997, a new street anthem was born in the studio with the creation of the Penpal Riddim. The team wanted a sound that would fit perfectly at bashment events, so they started with a heavy, danceable bassline. They added party elements and strong horn riffs to make the riddim stand out. The creative direction was led by FFRENCH, a producer known for his sharp ear and skill in building dancehall hits. FFRENCH has worked with several big names in the genre and is respected for his work with the label Mixing Finga. His signature horn arrangements help tie the whole project together, giving it a timeless feel. Angel Doolas is one of the standout artists on this release. He is recognized for his energetic style and has been part of other popular tracks in the dancehall scene. Captain Barkey, another key contributor, was known for his powerful voice and memorable performances. Captain Barkey had earlier success with hits like “Go Go Wine,” which made him a familiar name in Jamaican dancehall. On the Penpal Riddim, Angel Doolas & Captain Barkey teamed up for the song “Pen Pal.” Their collaboration brought a commanding energy that matched the street anthem base, making the track a favorite at dancehall parties.
