Pain Riddim (2016) – Roc Solid Entertainment

Roc Solid Entertainment’s Pain Riddim lands in that sturdy mid-2010s reggae-riddim pocket where the groove does the talking: a moody, reflective one-drop frame with songs circling struggle, doubt, and survival. Solution Reid’s “It Wasn’t Easy” and Hiawondah’s title cut set the tone early, while Ava Fontain’s “Mirrors” and Sir Ford’s wry “Marijuana Inna Mi Head” push the vibe in different directions without breaking the mood. There’s a nice contrast too in Kapo Di’Kaprio and Natty’s “After All, ” which leans more on the emotional side of the riddim, and Upt Uptown’s “Gold Like Shabba” gives the tracklist a sharper flash near the end. Ten cuts in all, it’s the kind of project that feels stitched together for fans who like their reggae vocal riddims a little bruised, a little patient, and very much rooted in everyday pressure.
