Back in 2007, when roots reggae and conscious one-riddim sets were still carving out plenty of room alongside the harder dancehall cuts, Oneness Records came through with a tidy nine-track package that kept the focus on message and melody. Alborosie’s “Right Or Wrong” and Lutan Fyah’s “Hypocrits” both lean into that firm, upright vibe, while Skarra Mucci’s “Glory Glory” brings a little more lift without losing the dubby weight underneath. Earl 16 linking with Joseph Cotton on “Bun Down Soddom” gives the set one of its grittier touches, and the Oneness Band version sits right where you’d want the riddim to breathe. Released on March 15, 2007, Oneness Riddim feels very much of that moment: conscious, compact, and aimed straight at sound systems that still wanted substance with their swing.
