On The Other Hand Riddim – Bassline Rock Music

Out of the 2016 dancehall run, On The Other Hand Riddim comes through with a tidy seven-cut set from Bassline Rock Music, and it leans more on clean movement and skanking bass than on heavy digital muscle. Bay C of T. O. K gives the project its most recognizable pull with “Star, ” while Camille Kaye’s “Loving You” and Melody Blacks’ “Come Back” keep the mood melodic and easy to latch onto. Elsewhere, Fiyah Bhingi and Shie turn “Higher Lover” into one of the more spirited turns, with Livalect, Redd Man and X-Ale filling out the riddim with voices that keep the energy varied without breaking the flow. It sits neatly in that mid-2010s dancehall moment when producers were still chasing crisp, vocal-driven riddims that worked equally well in dance or on a sound system.
