Old Dog Overview
In 1996, a group of artists and producers gathered in a Kingston studio to create what would become a street anthem. The beat was built from the ground up, with the studio hand leading the creative process. This direction helped shape the sound, making sure every detail was sharp and energetic. At the center of the project was XTRA LARGE PRODUCTIONS. Known for their strong presence in the dancehall scene, the label had already gained attention for their work with top Jamaican artists. XTRA LARGE PRODUCTIONS focused on making the riddim catchy and powerful, making sure it would stand out at parties and on the radio. The release featured several well-known artists. Baby Cham delivered "The Mass," bringing his signature style and energy. Beenie Man, already famous for hits like "Who Am I," contributed "Old Dog," showing why he was one of dancehall’s biggest stars at the time. Rude Boy Kelly added "Girls Anthem," giving the riddim even more party appeal. Spragga Benz joined with "Girls Watcher," adding his unique flow. Wayne Wonder was also part of the lineup, known for his smooth vocals and later international success with "No Letting Go." Frisco Kid closed things out with "Dreamland," giving the riddim another strong voice. This release became a favorite in 1996’s bashment scene, thanks to its hard-hitting beats and standout performances.
