Number One Riddim is a classic Treasure Isle set first cut by Duke Reid in 1964, later carried through versions on GG’s and Penthouse and other labels in the same family. The lineup brings together Eric Morris’s original Number One, U-Roy’s Drive Her Home, Gregory Isaacs’ My Number One, and later takes from Da’Ville, Delly Ranks, Devonte, and more, so the release moves from early ska-era roots into modern reggae and dancehall with ease. Donovan Germain’s Penthouse link is especially important here, since that 2001 revival helped give the rhythm a fresh life alongside the old Treasure Isle foundation. It’s a broad, voice-heavy compilation with a strong crossover feel, anchored by one of Jamaica’s most durable riddims and a mix that runs from vintage soulfulness to early-2000s lovers and conscious cuts.
