Popcaan dropped the visuals for St Thomas Native, which was a collaboration with Chronic Law, on streaming platforms. The track comes from his successful album Great Is He which was released early on in the year.
The track features 6IX member Chronic Law who has had a relatively quiet 2023. With heavy bars to boot, the pair make for a very talented lyrical duo who both hail from St Thomas, Jamaica. Chronic Law, whose real name is Akeeme Campbell is also known as the Law Boss and is known for both gritty and poignant dancehall cuts. He has dropped songs like Mass Murder, Friendship, Anything A Anything, and One Family. Affiliated with the likes of Squash and Daddy-1, Chronic Law is not known to make the bubble-gum trap dancehall like you get from the likes of Valiant and Skeng. He does make dancehall which belongs in a similar niche to the likes of Vybz Kartel and Busy Signal. The album does brag a host of other top artists including Burna Boy and Drake and Chronic Law fits in very well.
Once again the spotlight is on Popcaan’s album Great Is He and rightfully so. The more you listen to songs like St Thomas Native the more you appreciate the project. As I continually harp on, this is it for Popcaan in terms of attaining a Grammy. Listen to the deep bars from the St Thomas natives and let us hope the two collaborate again.
