In 2018, when soca producers were leaning hard into lean, road-ready riddims for the carnival circuit, Mashworks Family Studio Productions put out New Era Mass Riddim as a compact four-track set with no wasted space. The groove sounds brisk and carnival-minded, built for jump-up energy rather than fuss, with D’Regulars’ “Drunking Before Me” and Phragile’s “No Type” doing the most to give the project its character. Smallz’s “New Era Mass” keeps the title theme moving, while the instrumental sits right in the middle and lays bare the arrangement’s sharp, marching pulse and ringing percussion.
