Negusa Negus Riddim - King Of Kings Records

Negusa Negus Release Details

2002 was a busy stretch for roots-reggae riddims, and Negusa Negus sits right in that early-2000s wave of big voicings over one sturdy rhythm. King Of Kings Records lined up a deep cast here, with Anthony B’s “Ghetto Boy, ” Bushman’s “This Ya Time, ” and Capleton’s pair of cuts pushing the set into conscious territory, while Cecile and Chuck Fender add sharper contemporary touches. The riddim itself keeps a lean, driving pulse, with a rolling bassline and clipped drum pattern that leave plenty of room for the singers to phrase without crowding the arrangement. Capleton’s “Baby I Love You” feels like the clearest hook in the bunch, but the whole project holds together because the rhythm stays steady and unhurried, giving the voices space to ride the groove cleanly.
