Monstapiece Overview

In 2009, the carnival jam riddim became a major part of the soca music scene. This energetic riddim was widely played during Caribbean festivals that year, quickly turning into a favorite for parade bands and party crowds. The riddim’s lively beat and catchy melodies helped it stand out at every event. Alison Hinds, often called the “Queen of Soca,” was a key artist on this riddim. She brought her powerful voice to two songs: “Gimme De Juk Juk - Jah” and her famous hit “Wukking Crazy - Jah.” “Wukking Crazy - Jah” had already made Alison Hinds a big name in the soca world, winning her fans far beyond her home country of Barbados. General Edwin Yearwood is another important figure on this riddim. He is known for leading the band Krosfyah and for his songwriting skills. On the carnival jam riddim, he performed “Middle A De Road - Jah,” adding his signature style and energy. Red Plastic Bag, a respected calypsonian from Barbados, joined in with “Are You Going My Side - Jah.” He is well known for his many titles at the Barbados Calypso Monarch competition. Peter Ram also contributed with “Peter Pan - Jah.” He is recognized for his energetic performances and has been a staple in the soca scene for years. Lil Rick, another crowd favorite, performed “Wuk Pon Top A Wuk - Jah.” He is known for his catchy hooks and has earned several awards in Barbados for his work.
