MI FOOD RIDDIM produced by UNIVERSAL DANCEHALL 2001
MI Food Overview
The MI Food Riddim brought together some of dancehall’s most exciting voices in 2001. Capleton, known worldwide for his energetic stage shows and hits like “Jah Jah City,” leads the lineup with “Mi Food.” Lexxus, who made waves with “Get Wid It” and was nominated for a MOBO Award, delivers “Calling Up Mi Name.” Frisco Kid, Singer J, and Fargo Voice also step up with “Shouldnt Trouble,” “Love Mi Style,” and “Roll On.” Each artist brings their own style to the riddim, creating a strong mix for the dance floor. Other tracks on the project include Razah’s “Every Little Thing,” Harry Toddler’s “Bun Dung Babylon,” Breeze F Singing Sweet’s “Freedom Of Speech,” Lexxus F Breeze’s “DJ Alnight,” and Danny English’s “Right Now.” This collection shows the variety and energy of the scene at the time. The riddim was produced by UNIVERSAL DANCEHALL, a name known for pushing dancehall forward in the early 2000s. UNIVERSAL DANCEHALL helped many artists reach a wider audience and was part of several popular riddim projects. Their work on MI Food Riddim gave each artist space to shine while keeping the sound tight and focused. The MI Food Riddim quickly became a favorite in Jamaican dancehalls and at street parties. Its catchy beat, strong vocals, and clever lyrics made it a true anthem of 2001. This release is a great example of how yard studios and talented producers shaped the sound of modern dancehall.
