MANIAC RIDDIM produced by POT OF GOLD 1996
Maniac Overview
The Maniac Riddim came together in 1996 at the POT OF GOLD studio. Musicians worked closely, building a solid roots reggae rhythm with live instruments. The arranger made sure every part—bass, drums, guitar—fit together smoothly. His creative direction gave the riddim a deep, uplifting sound that stood out in reggae sets that year. POT OF GOLD, the label behind the project, was founded by Richie Stephens. The label became known for producing strong reggae and dancehall tracks in the 1990s. POT OF GOLD helped bring many artists to wider attention and was respected for its quality productions. On the Maniac Riddim, Alley Cat delivered “Sound A Flip,” giving the track his unique vocal style. Bounty Killer, a dancehall icon famous for hits like “Look,” brought his powerful delivery to the riddim. Richie Stephens, who started his career with Motown and later won the 2012 MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act, sang on “Maniac.” Future Trouble and Trevor Daley teamed up for “One Life To Live,” adding a message of hope. The “Maniac Version” instrumental let the music shine on its own. Richie Stephens also performed “Go Cindirella,” showing his versatility. Wayne Wonder, known for his later hit “No Letting Go,” sang “Sing A Song.” The Maniac Riddim was a key part of reggae’s sound in 1996, bringing together top artists and positive vibes.
