Magnum Crank It Up Release Details
Magnum Crank It Up arrived in 2011 from UPT
007 Records, the dancehall imprint tied to Supa Hype and Bobby
Tukaz. By that point the label was already part of the uptown,
sound-system-driven side of Jamaican dancehall, putting out sharp,
club-ready rhythms with a clean, digital finish and a strong ear
for voicings that could carry in a dance. This one sits comfortably
in that lane, with a hard-moving groove, a bright synthetic edge,
and enough space for each artist to bring a different attitude to
the same bed.
The riddim’s pull comes from how it
balances aggression and clarity. It has the kind of propulsive
swing that suits street-tough talk, but it never gets muddy; the
bassline stays tight and the mix leaves room for hooks and
fast-paced singjay phrasing. Chozenn and Konshens sharpen that
tension on “Judgement, ” a pairing that gives the cut extra weight.
Munga brings his familiar badmind-deflecting energy on “No Reply, ”
while Serani’s “How Comes” adds a smoother, more melodic turn.
Nesbeth’s “Progress” and Press Fyah’s “Mi Nuh Gone” push the set
into more reflective territory, and Tanto Blacks’ “Me Alone” keeps
the mood rugged. Big Wayne, Ice Cold, Stein, Juggla, Blemz, Chedda,
Hyah Slyce, Jr Daine, Tidal and Trilla all help flesh out a
juggling that feels made for selectors who wanted variety without
losing the pressure.
