P + L Production keeps the Magazine Riddim fairly raw and uncluttered, which suits a 2008 set loaded with gun talk, swagger and a few sharper melodic turns. Mad Cobra’s “Nuh Fraid” cuts in with veteran authority, while Mavado’s “Caah Bad Mi Up” and Spragga Benz’s “Magazine” ride the rhythm with that clipped, street-level energy that was everywhere in dancehall around that time. Maxi Priest’s “Never Judge” adds a smoother edge without softening the whole thing, and Vybz Kartel’s “Send Fi Di Magazine” pushes the title theme right into the center of the project. With 16 cuts in total, the riddim feels like one of those late-2000s compilations built for selectors as much as for listeners, arriving in a year when dancehall was still leaning hard on voice and attitude over polish.
