MADRAS RIDDIM produced by DADA PRODUCTIONS 2014
Madras Overview
Back in 2014, the Madras Riddim was the heartbeat of many carnival trucks. The journey of this soca anthem started in the studio with music arranger, Dada Lawrence. He worked closely with DADA PRODUCTIONS, a label known for their creative approach to Caribbean music. DADA PRODUCTIONS had already built a name for themselves with fresh soca releases and a strong online following, making them a trusted source for carnival soundtracks. The riddim itself was crafted with the energy of carnival in mind—big drums, bright horns, and a bassline that made the trucks shake. Once the base track was ready, it was time for the artists to step in. Fireman brought his signature style to “Rum Meeting,” a track that quickly became a party favorite. Halibut’s “False Hair” added humor and rhythm, while Hunter delivered emotion with “I Need You.” Janet Azzouz, known for her powerful voice, gave the riddim a true island vibe with “Dominica Jamming.” Luta teamed up with Edwin Yearwood—famous for his work with Krosfyah and hits like “Sweat”—on “Hold Yuh,” giving the project an extra boost. DJs picked up the Madras Riddim and played it all season, making sure every carnival crowd felt its pulse. The soundtrack of 2014’s carnival was set, and the Madras Riddim was at the center of it all.
