Lonely Soldier Overview
In 1994, the dub release of the Lonely Soldier Riddim appeared in Jamaica, bringing a fresh but classic sound to reggae fans. This project was produced by FAT EYES RECORDS, a well-known Jamaican label. FAT EYES RECORDS became popular in the 1990s for working with top reggae and dancehall artists and helped shape the sound of the decade. The riddim featured several talented artists. Ambelique brought his soulful voice to “Lonely Soldier,” adding emotion and depth. Anthony Malvo teamed up with dancehall veteran Josey Wales on “Natty Rule Uptown,” blending strong vocals and classic DJ style. Josey Wales is respected for hits like “Undercover Lover” and is known as one of the original dancehall toasters. Benji Myaz contributed “Can’t Go On Living,” showcasing his smooth singing style. Mykal Rose, famous for his work with Black Uhuru and the Grammy-winning album “Anthem,” delivered “Calling My Name.” Richie Stephens, who later won a MOBO Award in 2006, added his song “Someone To Hold.” The instrumental “Lonely Soldier” Version closed out the set, highlighting the riddim’s strong roots sound. The Lonely Soldier Riddim kept the rocksteady flow alive in 1994. With FAT EYES RECORDS at the controls, this release showed the depth of reggae’s roots and brought together some of the genre’s most respected voices.
