Livity Step Riddim sits in that firm, steppers-leaning reggae pocket, with Yared Zedek’s riddim carrying the whole set through five vocal cuts and then into two dubs. The strongest moments come from BlackMagique’s “Journey of Life, ” King Joe’s “Jah Jah A di Ruler, ” and Tenna Star’s “I am In The Victory, ” all of them riding the same militant pulse without sounding interchangeable. Produced by Mighty Karma for Livity Records and mixed by Roberto Sanchez, the project has a clean, weighty finish that suits the conscious lyrics and the French label’s rootsy direction. By the time it reaches “Dub Part 1” and “Dub Part 2, ” the arrangement opens up into proper sound system territory, and the instrumental Livity Step Riddim ties the whole thing back to the source.
