KING RIDDIM produced by PICKOUT 1995
King Overview
In the heart of Kingston’s dancehall scene in 1995, a new riddim started to make waves. This was King Riddim, a creation shaped by the producer known as PICKOUT. PICKOUT, also called Lloyd Dennis, was already known for his work with the Pickout label, which helped launch many dancehall hits in the late 1980s and 1990s. His productions were a big part of the street sound, always finding their way into the hands of selectors at dances all over Jamaica. King Riddim came together with a mix of strong melodies and a rebellious energy. It was designed to get people moving, and it worked. The riddim was soon voiced by a select group of artists, each bringing their own style. Flourgon, who had already made a name for himself with the hit “We Run Things,” added his unique delivery. Power Man, another artist in the lineup, brought “Hotter Set A Gal” to the riddim, a track that quickly got attention in the dancehall sessions. The Version, “King Riddim - Pickout,” let the riddim shine on its own, giving selectors a pure instrumental to play with. At street dances, King Riddim was a favorite. Dancers loved the vibe, and its sound became part of the nightly soundtrack in 1995. The riddim’s journey from studio to dancefloor showed how one producer’s vision could shape a moment in dancehall history.
