Winston Riley’s Techniques imprint keeps the Just Friends riddim in the lane where slick harmony, lover’s talk and conscious messages sit right beside each other. Issued in 2001 and later folded into VP’s Riddim Driven series, it sits comfortably in Riley’s long catalogue of polished, melody-first productions that helped define the modern Jamaican riddim format.

The set opens with Tony Rebel and Swade on the title cut, a duet built on relationship tension and the sort of conversational chemistry that makes a good juggling rhythm feel alive. George Nooks follows with “Girl Friend, ” while Richie Stephens turns in the warm plea of “Bring Back The Love. ” Glen Washington’s “Satisfaction Guaranteed” and Lukie D’s “Hugging Me Loving Me” push the same romantic energy, but Natural Black’s “Nuh Promote Nuh Violence” and Admiral Tibet’s “Informer” bring a sharper conscious edge.
