Jungle Fever Overview
Downsound Records stood behind the 1996 bashment rhythm that made a strong mark on dancehall. The label, founded by Josef Bogdanovich, became known for supporting authentic Jamaican music and working with both new and legendary artists. Andrew Prendergast handled the engineering, helping shape the sound that would echo through sound systems across the island. Elephant Man brought his energy to the project with "Possessed By The Glue." Already making a name for himself in the mid-90s, Elephant Man would later become famous for hits like "Pon De River, Pon De Bank." Ninjaman, a veteran in the dancehall scene known for his rapid-fire lyrics and stage presence, delivered "Jungle Fever." His influence in the genre was already established by the time this rhythm dropped. Scare Dem Crew Ft Harry Toddler contributed "Girls Time Tonight." Scare Dem Crew, with Harry Toddler as a key member, was known for their teamwork and lively performances. Harry Toddler also appears solo on "Girls Time Tonight — Girls Time Tonight," showing his versatility as both a group member and solo artist. Downsound Records’ release of "Andrew Prendergast - Jungle Fever Rhythm Version" rounded out the project, highlighting the label’s commitment to dancehall’s roots. The Jungle Fever rhythm became a cornerstone of 1996, remembered for its streetwise sound and lasting influence.
