JAVA RIDDIM produced by XTERMINATOR 1994
Java Overview
The Java Riddim started as a roots instrumental, first made famous in the 1970s by Augustus Pablo. In 1993, it returned with new energy as part of the roots sessions, produced by XTERMINATOR. This version kept the deep, classic reggae feel, but added fresh touches for a new generation. Several top artists recorded songs on this riddim. Beres Hammond, known for his hit “Rockaway” and his powerful voice, gave us “Checking Out.” Lady G, a respected dancehall DJ famous for her song “Nuff Respect,” brought her talent to “Good Daughter.” Luciano, who would later earn the Order of Distinction from the Jamaican government, delivered “Wicked Haffi Run Wey.” Lukie D added his smooth vocals to “New Direction,” and Sanchez, known for his many chart-topping lovers rock hits, sang “Never Keeping Secrets.” Other artists also joined the project, including Selvie Wonder with “See Me,” Sizzla with “Dreams,” Sugar Minott with “Jah Make Me Feel So Good,” and Wayne Wonder with “The Way I Am.” Each artist brought their own style, but the riddim kept everything connected. XTERMINATOR, led by producer Philip “Fatis” Burrell, was known for working with reggae legends and bringing roots music back into the spotlight in the 1990s. This release showed how strong the reggae foundation was, and why the Java Riddim remains a favorite for reggae fans.
