By Your Words Riddim – Kariang

1997 dancehall met Kariang on the By Your Words Riddim, a five-track juggling that brings together Chezidek, Lisa Danger, Sizzla, and Terry Ganzie. Sizzla’s By Your Words is the best-known cut here, while Terry Ganzie turns up twice with Wicked and Hot and Wicked and Hot Version, giving the release a slightly unusual split between song and version. The line-up also includes Chezidek’s Congregation and Lisa Danger’s Row The Boat, which help give the riddim a rootsy, conscious edge even within a straight dancehall framework. Kariang kept the project tight and focused, with just four artists across the set, and that compact feel is part of what makes this one memorable among the rarer late-’90s dancehall riddims.
