ISLAND MAS RIDDIM (SOCA) – MONSTAPIECE ENT. 2012
Island Mas Overview
Back in 2012, soca fans got a real treat with the Island Mas Riddim. This rhythm was created by a skilled soca craftsman who knew how to bring the sound of Carnival to life. The journey started in the studio, where the producer blended bright steelpan melodies with a strong, danceable beat. The goal was simple: to make a rhythm that would get everyone moving during the Carnival season. Once the riddim was ready, it became a canvas for some of soca’s biggest names. Blaxx jumped on the track with “No Getaway,” bringing his signature energy. Blaxx was already known for his hit “Leh Go,” so fans were excited to hear his voice on this new groove. Terri Lyons came through with “Carry On,” showing off her powerful vocals. Terri, the daughter of soca legend Superblue, had already made her own mark in the industry. Edwin Yearwood, famous for leading the group Krosfyah and for hits like “Sweat,” added his song “Pushing It.” Alison Hinds, often called the Queen of Soca and known for “Roll It Gal,” delivered “Girls Want More Iron,” adding even more fire to the riddim. General Degree, a Jamaican dancehall artist with international hits like “Traffic Blocking,” brought his flair to “Soca Fire.” Fans remember these songs lighting up the road, trucks, and fetes. Island Mas Riddim became the heartbeat of Carnival 2012, and its energy still lives on in soca memories today.
