Iphone Riddim – Brick Fence Productions

Eight cuts deep and built around a tight little dancehall cast, the Iphone Riddim keeps its focus on hooks and quick-fire party talk rather than big conceptual moves. Brick Fence Productions put it out in 2012, with Kharma on “Gal U Good” in both raw and clean versions, Topic Matta’s “Like A Iphone” also doubled up, plus singles from Lyfe Lyne, Terror Fabulous, and White Nike. The title points straight at the era, and the production follows suit: brisk drum programming, a clipped bass pulse, and a bright, almost ringtone-like lead motif that keeps the whole rhythm moving. Terror Fabulous’ “Party Time” is the most familiar name in the lineup, but the riddim really hangs together as a compact slice of early-2010s dancehall, clocking in at just over 23 minutes with an instrumental closing out the set.
