Instant Darkness Riddim – Prince I-Rae

By late summer 2019, Prince I-Rae was pushing a tight four-cut dancehall set that leans into a dark, jagged edge rather than glossy polish. Instant Darkness Riddim pairs Don Lyrikal’s “Nuh Normal” and Echo Dan’s “Permission” with the title track from Insideeus and K Sling’s “AK, ” and the sequencing keeps the whole thing moving like a quick club run instead of a sprawling compilation. The sound feels sparse and pressure-heavy, with enough low-end bite to give the vocalists room to trade tough talk and warning shots over the same moody framework. Insideeus gets the obvious centerpiece with “Instant Darkness, ” while Echo Dan and K Sling keep the energy pointed toward the harder, trap-leaning side of 2019 dancehall.
