Hurdle Riddim – Black Scorpio 1995
Hurdle Overview
Back in 1995, the Hurdle Riddim started its journey in a Kingston studio. The craftsman behind the boards was a skilled engineer known for his clean mixes and sharp edits. He brought out the best in the musicians, making sure every groove and horn riff hit just right. The riddim came together with a strong bassline and catchy horns, giving it a sound that selectors loved. When the sound system cut was ready, it didn’t take long for selectors to pick it up. They knew this riddim would mash up the dance. The producer, who had already worked on a few big projects, made sure each track had its own flavor but still fit together. At street dances, the Hurdle Riddim became a favorite, with people waiting to hear which artist would ride it next. Determine’s “Unexplainable” stood out with its sharp lyrics. Determine was already known for his energetic delivery and soon after, he would gain more recognition with the hit “Kette Drum.” General Trees brought his classic style on “Hot Like A Pepper.” Fans remembered him from earlier hits like “Mini Bus,” and his voice gave the riddim a real veteran touch. Johnny P’s “Loverboy” and Ricky General’s “Model Fi De Better” kept the vibes high, each bringing their own unique flow. Selectors made sure this mix was in every big event that year. The Hurdle Riddim’s sound system cut was pure bashment energy—unstoppable on the dance floor.
