HOT WAX RIDDIM produced by BLACK CORAL 1995
Hot Wax Overview
Back in 1995, the selector’s choice for dancehall parties was all about fresh energy and new voices. The Hot Wax Riddim came together in the studio with a clear plan: make something lively and smooth that would keep people moving all night. The bashment arranger wanted every track to have its own style, but still fit together like a perfect party mix. Behind the scenes was producer BLACK CORAL. Known for bringing strong dancehall sounds, BLACK CORAL had already made a name in the scene. Working with different artists, the producer helped shape the sound of the mid-90s, and releases under the BLACK CORAL label were always watched by DJs and fans. On Hot Wax Riddim, three artists got the spotlight. Danny B brought his tune “Too Much Work,” showing off his vocal style. Penny Irie, already known for his fun lyrics and stage presence, came with “Beach Trip.” Penny Irie had made waves before with songs like “No Mama No Cry,” and was respected for his clever wordplay. Ricky General, who had a big hit with “Skettel Concerto” in 1994, added “Skettle Bomb” to the mix. Ricky General was well-known for his catchy hooks and had worked with top producers in Jamaica. The selector’s choice truly captured the bashment vibe of 1995, giving these artists a chance to shine while keeping the dancefloor hot.
