Highway Riddim – Simple Youths Production

Highway Riddim comes in with a grimy, street-level bounce, the kind of 2017 dancehall cut that leaves room for tough talk and late-night bravado. Simple Youths Production keeps the drums punchy and the bass low-slung, and that gives tracks like White Nyke’s “Grip Me” and One Pang’s “Party Chargy” real swing; both songs also turn up in explicit versions, which tells you the energy here isn’t being sanded down. Elsewhere, Adv’s “Pull It Up Again” and Leo T’s “Nothing Like Life” give the juggling a little more shape, moving it from party mode into something rougher and more restless. It’s a 13-track set with 11 artists, and that extra duplicate treatment on a couple cuts feels like the producer knew where the heat was.
