Platinum Power Productions kept this one lean in 2004, and that economy is part of the charm: Hard Influence Riddim runs with just two cuts, giving Bascom X and Pickny plenty of room over a crisp, stripped-down dancehall riddim that leans more on sharp drum programming and a no-nonsense bassline than on flashy ornament. Bascom X’s “No Time” brings the tougher edge, while Pickny’s “Look From When” sits a little looser and lets the groove breathe, so the set feels more like a focused two-way exchange than a crowded juggling. It sits neatly alongside the label’s earlier Platinum Power work, but this one pares the formula back to essentials and closes with “Look From When, ” which leaves the rhythm’s dry snap and forward motion hanging in the air.
