Happy Tyme Riddim - Good Good Production

Happy Tyme Riddim arrived in 2013 from Good Good Production, the Montego Bay-based label led by producer Evan Powell, whose name has been tied to a run of modern juggling sets in the dancehall lane. The rhythm sits comfortably in that 2010s era when clean hooks and quick-turn vocals could still power a full various-artists package, and it runs at a mid-tempo pace that leaves room for both party talk and more reflective praise songs.

The strongest cuts are the ones that match that balance. Beenie Man’s “Di Realest” brings veteran weight and authority, while I-Octane’s title track “Happy Tyme” pushes the feel-good side of the riddim with a smoother, chant-ready approach. Ishawna’s “No Fear” adds a sharper edge, and Konshens’ “Give Praise” keeps things rooted in uplift. Fantan Mojah’s “Party Wid Di Girls” draws on his roots-reggae-influenced delivery, giving the set a more melodic, open-air quality. The instrumental is listed as part of the release, which matters because this is the sort of riddim that lives on its bounce as much as on the voicings.

The roster also includes Kibaki and Flexxx on “Dah Body Yah, ” merital on “Doing It Again, ” Munga and Rhyming King on “Fresh and Come out Clean, ” and Versatile on “Give Thanks. ” It is a proper dancehall juggling with enough names to keep selectors busy, but enough consistency in tone to make the set feel coordinated rather than crowded.
