By the mid-1990s, dancehall was deep in its ragga phase, and Gundy Riddim – Cry a Lot sits right in that run of lean, drum-forward riddims that were made for sound system pull-up and quick-fire DJ cuts. This one is a small but pointed outing, with Ricky Parro carrying both tracks, “Hay Ya Hoy” and “Salaman A Gundy, ” so the focus stays on voice and delivery rather than a crowded lineup, and that narrow cast gives the riddim a tighter feel. “Hay Ya Hoy” has the flashier title and reads like the more immediate cut, while “Salaman A Gundy” sounds like the kind of side that lets the groove sit a little longer and lets Parro work the pocket. The release carries just two tracks, both by Ricky Parro, under the Gundy name.
