Grand Stage Riddim – Black State / Johnny Wonder

Grand Stage Riddim arrived in July 2020 from Black State and Johnny Wonder, with Zojak handling the label side. It’s a straight dancehall juggling aimed at the speakers, not the ballroom: 15 cuts, 12 artists, and a format that doubles up on the explicit and clean versions for a few of the key songs.

The lineup mixes established voices with names that know their way around a riddim. Bugle brings the conscious edge he’s built his career on, and “Payless” sits naturally in that lane with a reflective, everyday-groove feel. Vershon gives “Loyalty” a sharper street stance, while Kiprich drops into “Be Strong” with Noah Powa, a pairing that adds extra bounce and personality to one of the set’s more memorable tracks. Ijah Reece’s “Freedom Street” keeps the roots-and-resistance thread alive, and Blak Diamon’s “Seek Jah” gives the riddim another spiritual pull. Prohgres, Mr G, Monaie Avi, Dilly Don, Tanto Marijuana and Nicko Blast fill out the project with songs that keep the energy moving from one stance to the next.

The production has that late-2020 dancehall grip: lean drums, a militant pulse, and enough low-end pressure to let each voice cut through cleanly. It doesn’t chase glossy crossover polish; it works best as a sound system tool, where the cadence, the hooks and the variations between artists do the heavy lifting. The result is a riddim that feels built for juggling, with Bugle, Kiprich and Vershon giving it the clearest anchor points.
