Golgotha Riddim – Rb Records

RB Records leans into a more explicitly gospel-tinged corner of dancehall here, and that angle gives Golgotha Riddim a different pull from the usual party-first juggernaut. The rhythms feel firm and mid-tempo, with enough bass weight to keep it in the dance while the singers push faith, struggle and confrontation in tracks like Christina Roshay’s “Deliver Me” and Joseph Emanuel’s “Shub Up Yuh Hand. ” Jai Kingston and Emrand Henry add some of the sharper vocal turns, and the whole thing hangs together as a compact seven-track set from 2017. The instrumental closer, “Golgotha Riddim, ” leaves the riddim’s church-and-street tension intact, which is really the project’s point.
