Gems Riddim – Sam Diggy Music

Gems Riddim came out in 2018 on Sam Diggy Music, a label name that had already been circulating on digital reggae and dancehall releases by then, with VPAL handling distribution on the wider album listing. The riddim sits in the modern roots lane: clean, bright percussion, a rolling bassline, and enough space for singers to stretch out without the instrumental ever feeling crowded.

The line-up is led by Bugle on “Grow Through, ” Jah Vinci on “One Time, ” Pressure and Marlon Asher linking on “Cover Me, ” Ken U on “Undercover, ” Jeffery and Perfect on “The Atmosphere, ” and Keida on “So Much More. ” That mix gives the project real range. Bugle brings his usual reflective, grown-man tone; Jah Vinci cuts through with his melodic dancehall sweetness; Pressure and Marlon Asher give “Cover Me” a more devotional edge, with Asher’s Trinidad roots-conscious style sitting naturally beside Pressure’s St. Croix delivery. Perfect and Jeffery add a lighter, more buoyant feel on “The Atmosphere, ” while Keida’s turn on “So Much More” brings one of the more distinctive female voices to the set.
