Gangland Riddim – Fire Royal 2019

Fire Royal keeps Gangland Riddim tight and spare, with just four cuts and no wasted motion. Hot Frass’s “Feel It” is the obvious pull here, but Joshua Fyah’s “Journey, ” Knaxx’s “Story, ” and Selah Wayne’s “Grimy Streets” all lean into the same hard-edged, streetwise energy, with the production sitting in that lean 2019 dancehall space rather than chasing anything overly glossy. It feels like a natural follow-up to the kind of stripped-back juggling Fire Royal was pushing around that period, the sort of release that let each singer stamp their own angle onto a single pattern. With only four voices on board, Gangland ends up as a sharp little entry in the Fire Royal catalogue, more about mood and attitude than big flourish.
