Galang Riddim – Galang Records

Agent Sasco sets the tone on Galang Riddim with “Mi Give Thanks, ” and that opening feel carries through a compact six-song set from Galang Records in 2014. The riddim leans toward straight-ahead dancehall pressure: taut drums, a bright-but-spare pulse, and enough space for the voices to cut cleanly across it. Charly Black’s “Legalize It” and Mad Cobra’s “Life We A Deal Wid” give it the biggest jolt, while Gappy Ranks brings a more conscious, earthy turn on “Mama Africa” and Patko keeps the badman edge sharp on “Why A Badman. ” Don Dem’s “Love Inna Wi Heart” adds a softer note without loosening the pace. It’s a tidy snapshot of mid-2010s dancehall, when one riddim could still move from uplift to street talk without breaking the flow.
